  • 264 heavy duty tarpaulins

These supplies arrived in Ocho Rios on November 11 and were immediately handed over to local relief agencies. Bottled water was one of the most urgent needs identified on the island after storm damage disrupted multiple water systems. The tarpaulins will help residents cover damaged roofs and create temporary shelter as rebuilding continues.

The quick use of a cruise vessel for emergency aid is significant. Cruise ships can reach affected ports faster than cargo vessels, allowing for immediate delivery of high priority items during the first critical days of recovery.

Major Logistical Support: Containers, Transport, and Storage

Beyond the MSC Divina shipment, MSC’s broader logistics arm has committed substantial resources through the MSC Foundation:

  • Free ocean transport for 12 containers of relief supplies from the United States
  • A donation of 14 shipping containers to support storage and distribution
  • Coordinated assistance for Jamaican partners including Food For The Poor and the RG Cares Foundation

These containers will help local organizations manage incoming supplies, store materials securely, and move them efficiently into affected communities. For many disaster zones, lack of storage capacity and transport infrastructure is one of the biggest barriers to recovery, so MSC’s support is more than a symbolic gesture. It directly increases the amount of aid the island can handle at once.

Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of MSC Cruises and Chair of the MSC Foundation Executive Committee, emphasized the company’s long-term connection to Jamaica. He said the company remains committed to supporting the people of Jamaica and providing critical resources in partnership with on-the-ground organizations.

This is not a one-time response. MSC confirmed that additional support efforts are being planned as the national recovery strategy continues. MSC’s foundation has a history of emergency response work in the region, including interventions after hurricanes in the Bahamas and volcanic activity in the Eastern Caribbean.
